Rural Sites


Bear River Hospital ED

  • Medical Director:
    Dr. Jonathan Gochnour (Director since 2025). Lives in Cache Valley; enjoys pack trips and trail rides with his family and four horses.
  • Facility Overview:
    Level IV trauma center in Tremonton, UT, off I-15. Serves a large catchment area in Box Elder County and Southern Idaho. Features six ED beds and ten inpatient medical beds.
  • Key Aspects:
    Rural feel with limited nurse turnover. Appreciated by staff and administration for having board-certified EM physicians. Utilizes telemedicine to manage admitted patients and minimize transfers.
  • Coverage:
    24-hour physician coverage with 12-to-24-hour shifts (24-hour preferred). Occasional solo APP coverage, supported by local FM physicians. Plans for daily mid-shift APP coverage.

Cassia Regional Hospital ED

  • Medical Director:
    Dr. Taryn Collins (Director for 2 years). Married with four kids; enjoys e-bike rides, hunting, snowmobiling, and skiing.
  • Facility Overview:
    Critical access hospital in Burley, ID, located on the Snake River.
  • Key Aspects:
    Tight-knit group of 4 physicians and 2 APPs. Known as the go-to service for critical care, seeing a wide variety of trauma and pathology despite being a smaller hospital. Offers excellent work-life balance and access to world-class hunting, fishing, skiing, and water sports.
  • Coverage:
    24-hour physician shifts with night-time APP support. Staffed with 3 nurses at all times and a support tech during the swing shift.
