Virgil Davis, MD - APP Physician Lead

Dr. Virgil Davis is one of two Physician Leads for our APP program. He has been instrumental in advancing the group, consistently pushing for excellence while fostering a supportive and collaborative environment. Dr. Davis is a wealth of clinical knowledge and an approachable mentor who enjoys teaching and is always willing to help. His deep understanding of the APP role and his passion for exceptional patient care are cornerstones of the program's success.

Chris Alsup, FNP-C, ENP-C, AG-ACNP-BC - APP Lead

Chris Alsup is a triple board-certified Nurse Practitioner who serves as the APP Lead for the central region of Utah Emergency Physicians. He holds board certifications in Family, Emergency, and Acute Care specialties. After earning his Master's degree from Austin Peay State University and completing a post-graduate program at Vanderbilt University, Chris began his career in a Tennessee emergency department. He joined UEP in 2019 and stepped into the role of APP Lead in July 2024.

Chris is passionate about creating an exceptional and stable work environment for his colleagues. He believes in leading with compassion and transparency, ensuring the APP team's goals align with the broader mission of UEP. He has a proven track record of managing schedules, mentoring new hires, and representing the APP group's interests while fostering a strong, collaborative relationship with physician colleagues.


Our Practice

The UEP practice model is designed for collaboration and clinical excellence. APPs work in a variety of hospital settings, from busy tertiary referral centers to community hospitals .

  • Scope of Practice: APPs manage a wide range of patients independently, guided by established practice criteria, with the constant on-site support of a supervising physician. Physicians are always immediately available for consultation.
  • Collaborative Care: For critically ill and medically complex APPs work in direct partnership with physicians, ensuring comprehensive and coordinated care. Certain advanced imaging and procedures also involve direct physician collaboration.
  • Onboarding and Mentorship: We offer a robust orientation process for all new hires, with structured pathways for both recent graduates and experienced providers to ensure a successful transition into our group . New APPs receive dedicated shifts with medical directors and have clear goals for patient volume and productivity to guide their development.

  • Competitive Compensation: Our pay structure includes a competitive hourly rate with clear, experience-based categories that allow for financial growth as you gain expertise and independence . Annual raises are based on performance and cost-of-living increases.
  • Productivity Bonuses: In addition to a strong base salary, APPs are eligible for significant quarterly productivity bonuses based on generated RVUs. There are also opportunities for additional quarterly payments based on quality-based initiatives.

The Hiring Process
